Tonight, bike to "The Sandlot"

Bicyclists are welcome at tonight’s free screening of “The Sandlot”

Saddle up for a night of family-friendly fun.

Tonight, there’s a free outdoor screening of “The Sandlot,” complete with popcorn and steaming hot SLO Chai.

When young Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) moves to a new neighborhood in Los Angeles, circa 1962, Benny Rodriguez (Mike Vitar) and his fellow baseball players take him under their collective wing.

Together, they experience the summer of a lifetime — facing off against their privileged rivals, The Tigers, and matching wits against the mean neighborhood dog known as The Beast. James Earl Jones co-stars as the dog’s owner, Mr. Mertle.

Bicyclists will gather at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Mission Plaza in downtown San Luis Obispo, then bike over to the YMCA, located at 1020 Southwood Drive. “The Sandlot” starts screening around 8 p.m.

Riders should dress warmly, wear helmets and bring bike lights. Seating is on the lawn, so low-backed chairs and blankets are encouraged.

The family-friendly event includes snacks and bike-related prizes from Cambria Bicycle Outfitters, Wally’s Bicycle Works and Lezyne in San Luis Obispo.

Tonight’s Bike-In Movie is brought to you by San Luis Obispo Regional Rideshare, celebrating “Life in the Bike Lane” throughout the month of May.

Call Kelsie Greer at 781-1385 for more information about Bike Month events.
