Advancement Of Navy
To prepare for your exam you should first download your bibs. Bibs, short for bibliography, are what you reference to study for the exam. Online links to the bibs, and other important material, are located in the left column of this page.
There are several sources you can use when gathering your advancement material that your bib references. Please remember though that classified material and other military pubs or manuals may not be available for download. Some of this material may be available right at your place of work or parent command if you are TAD.
The occupational (your enlisted rate) questions will be first, with the PMK questions following. The occupational standard questions will be the same for all rates within pay grades. So that means that each pay grade, regardless of rate, will have the same military questions. Now that’s some good gouge for study groups! The bibs will continue to be exam specific.
If you understand what the exam consist of you have passed the second hardest hurdle in taking the test. The hardest hurdle of course is to actually study; if you have studied the correct material using all available resources, taking the exam will perhaps be the easiest part of the whole process!
The enlisted Navy Advancement Center provides this very subtle note, which states: “The exams differentiate among fully qualified candidates on the basis of who has the most knowledge.” To differentiate yourself you should seek these other sources of knowledge during your studies.

Bret Michaels Back In Hospital
Bret Michaels Back in Hospital: Musician and “Celebrity Apprentice” finalist Bret Michaels, who suffered a brain hemorrhage last month, is back in a Los Angeles hospital after having what doctors described as a “warning stroke.” A message was posted on Michaels’ website saying that he “was readmitted to the hospital this week after suffering numbness on the left side of his body, predominantly his face and hands, which doctors described as a transient ischemic attack, or warning stroke.” Michaels’ representative, Janna Elias, is quoted on the site as saying Michaels is walking and talking, but “he has made it clear he is sick and tired of being in the hospital and is ready to rock again.”

Eight-term Rep. Mark Souder will announce his resignation Tuesday after it came to light that he was conducting an affair with a female aide who worked in his district office, Fox News has learned.
Multiple senior House sources indicated that the extent of the affair with the 45-year-old staffer would have landed Souder before the House Ethics Committee.
Elected as a family values conservative as part of the Republican revolution in 1994, Souder survived a tough re-election challenge in 2008 and survived a contested primary two weeks ago.

Souder, a Republican, will will step down on Friday. He said in remarks obtained by Fox News that he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff."
"I wish I could have been a better example," he was to say. "In this poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process. ... We are a committed family but the error is mine and I should bear the responsibility. Not only am I thankful for a loving family but for a loving God."
Multiple senior House sources indicated that the extent of Souder's affair with the staffer would have landed him before the House Ethics Committee. Sources told Fox News that the aide, identified as Tracy Jackson, a woman in her mid-40s, would accompany the congressman to events and to record ads at a Christian radio broadcast station.

Souder, 59, was absent from Washington most of last week, missing multiple votes and voting only on Thursday. While the rumors had been flying, Souder claimed that he was at home tending to his ill wife.
In his statement, he added that by stepping down, his "mistake cannot be used as a political football" to undermine the causes he supports.
"As I leave public office, my plans are focused on repairing my marriage, earning back the trust of my family and my community and renewing my walk with my Lord," his statement reads.
Souder and his wife, Diane, have three grown children and two grandchildren.
Jackson, a part-time aide who worked in Souder's northern Indiana district office, handled communications for the congressman in the district and periodically travelled with him. According to Legistorm.com, Jackson earned $12,541.70 from Souder's office last year. She is still on the staff.
Jackson began working for Souder in December 2004 as a "special assistant/communications" aide who earned $533.33 that year.
Fox has learned that Souder initially discussed retiring at the end of this term and not standing for re-election. But after talking with his family over the weekend, he decided to resign.

The congressman was to say that while it has been "a privilege to be part of the battle for freedom and the values we share," the cost of public service has taken a toll on him.

Saddle up for a night of family-friendly fun.
Tonight, there’s a free outdoor screening of “The Sandlot,” complete with popcorn and steaming hot SLO Chai.
When young Scotty Smalls (Tom Guiry) moves to a new neighborhood in Los Angeles, circa 1962, Benny Rodriguez (Mike Vitar) and his fellow baseball players take him under their collective wing.

Riders should dress warmly, wear helmets and bring bike lights. Seating is on the lawn, so low-backed chairs and blankets are encouraged.
The family-friendly event includes snacks and bike-related prizes from Cambria Bicycle Outfitters, Wally’s Bicycle Works and Lezyne in San Luis Obispo.

Now maybe its just a silly paranoia fueled conspiracy to insinuate that Barack Hussein Obama is ineligible to serve as the 44th president of the United States of America, so we won’t. NEW YORK – Two private investigators working independently are asking why President Obama is using a Social Security number set aside for applicants in Connecticut while there is no record he ever had a mailing address in the state.
In addition, the records indicate the number was issued between 1977 and 1979, yet Obama's earliest employment reportedly was in 1975 at a Baskin-Robbins ice-cream shop in Oahu, Hawaii.
WND has copies of affidavits filed separately in a presidential eligibility lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia by Ohio licensed private investigator Susan Daniels and Colorado private investigator John N. Sampson.
The investigators believe Obama needs to explain why he is using a Social Security number reserved for Connecticut applicants that was issued at a date later than he is known to have held employment.

The Social Security website confirms the first three numbers in his ID are reserved for applicants with Connecticut addresses, 040-049.
"Since 1973, Social Security numbers have been issued by our central office," the Social Security website explains. "The first three (3) digits of a person's social security number are determined by the ZIP code of the mailing address shown on the application for a social security number."
The question is being raised amid speculation about the president's history fueled by an extraordinary lack of public documentation. Along with his original birth certificate, Obama also has not released educational records, scholarly articles, passport documents, medical records, papers from his service in the Illinois state Senate, Illinois State Bar Association records, any baptism records and adoption papers.
Robert Siciliano, president and CEO of IDTheftSecurity.com and a nationally recognized expert on identity theft, agrees the Social Security number should be questioned.
"I know Social Security numbers have been issued to people in states where they don't live, but there's usually a good reason the person applied for a Social Security number in a different state," Siciliano told WND.
WND asked Siciliano whether he thought the question was one the White House should answer.
"Yes," he replied. "In the case of President Obama, I really don't know what the good reason would be that he has a Social Security number issued in Connecticut when we know he was a resident of Hawaii."
Siciliano is a frequent expert guest on identify theft on cable television networks, including CNN, CNBC and the Fox News Channel.
Daniels and Sampson each used a different database showing Obama is using a Social Security number beginning with 042.
WND has further confirmed that the Social Security number in question links to Obama in the online records maintained by the Selective Service System. Inserting the Social Security number, his birth date and his last name produces a valid Selective Service number.
To verify the number was issued by the Social Security Administration for applicants in Connecticut, Daniels used a Social Security number verification database. She found that the numbers immediately before and immediately after Obama's were issued to Connecticut applicants between the years 1977 and 1979.
"There is obviously a case of fraud going on here," Daniels maintained. "In 15 years of having a private investigator's license in Ohio, I've never seen the Social Security Administration make a mistake of issuing a Connecticut Social Security number to a person who lived in Hawaii. There is no family connection that would appear to explain the anomaly."

Sampson's affidavit specifies that as a result of his formal training as an immigration officer and his 27-year career in professional law enforcement, "it is my knowledge and belief that Social Security numbers can only be applied for in the state in which the applicant habitually resides and has their official residence."
Daniels told WND she believes Obama had a different Social Security number when he worked as a teenager in Hawaii prior to 1977.
"I doubt this is President Obama's originally issued Social Security number," she told WND. "Obama has a work history in Hawaii before he left the islands to attend college at Occidental College in California, so he must have originally been issued a Social Security number in Hawaii."
The published record available about Obama indicates his first job as a teenager in Hawaii was at a Baskin-Robbins in the Makiki neighborhood on Oahu. USA Today reported the ice-cream shop still was in operation one year after Obama's inauguration.
Politifact.com, a website typically supportive of Obama, claims he worked at the Baskin-Robbins in 1975 or 1976, prior to the issuance of the number in question.
"It is a crime to use more than one Social Security number, and Barack Obama had to have a previous Social Security number to have worked at Baskin-Robbins," she insisted. "Under current law, a person is not permitted to use more than one Social Security number in a lifetime."
Another anomaly in the law enforcement databases searched by Daniels and Sampson is that the date 1890 shows up in the field indicating the birth of the number holder, along with Obama's birth date of 08/04/1961. A third date listed is 04/08/1961, which appears to be a transposition of Obama's birth date in an international format, with the day before the month.
Daniels disclosed to WND the name of the database she searched and produced a computer screen copy of the page that listed 1890 as a date associated with the 042 Social Security number.
Daniels said she can't be sure if the 1890 figure has any significance. But she said it appears the number Obama is using was previously issued by the Social Security Administration.
After an extensive check of the proprietary databases she uses as a licensed private investigator, Daniels determined that the first occurrence of Obama's association with the number was in 1986 in Chicago.
Daniels assumes, but cannot prove, that Obama took on a previously issued Social Security number that had gone dormant due to the death of the original holder.
Daniels has been a licensed private investigator in Ohio since 1995. Sampson formed his private investigations firm, CSI Consulting and Investigations, in 2008. He previously worked as a deportations law enforcement officer with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The Daniels and Sampson affidavits were originally recorded by attorney Orly Taitz in an eligibility case against Obama last year.

Another red flag is that the number issued was done so at the very least two years after Obama’s first publicly recorded employment. How was he employed without a social security card? One investigator believes that Bam claimed one social security in Hawaii and then at some point before 1986 claimed another. His current digits were recorded as his own for the very first time in Chicago in 1986.
Oh wait, ANOTHER concern is that the number appears to have been recycled and originally issued to an individual born in 1890 which leads experts to concur that Obama took a deceased citizens social security number prior to 1986 for reasons evidently understood only by himself. Now maybe its just a silly paranoia fueled conspiracy to insinuate that Barack Hussein Obama is ineligible to serve as the 44th president of the United States of America, so we won’t. "It is a crime to use more than one Social Security number, and Barack Obama had to have a previous Social Security number to have worked at Baskin-Robbins," she insisted. "Under current law, a person is not permitted to use more than one Social Security number in a lifetime."
Another anomaly in the law enforcement databases searched by Daniels and Sampson is that the date 1890 shows up in the field indicating the birth of the number holder, along with Obama's birth date of 08/04/1961. A third date listed is 04/08/1961, which appears to be a transposition of Obama's birth date in an international format, with the day before the month.
Daniels disclosed to WND the name of the database she searched and produced a computer screen copy of the page that listed 1890 as a date associated with the 042 Social Security number.
Daniels said she can't be sure if the 1890 figure has any significance. But she said it appears the number Obama is using was previously issued by the Social Security Administration.
After an extensive check of the proprietary databases she uses as a licensed private investigator, Daniels determined that the first occurrence of Obama's association with the number was in 1986 in Chicago.
Daniels assumes, but cannot prove, that Obama took on a previously issued Social Security number that had gone dormant due to the death of the original holder.
Daniels has been a licensed private investigator in Ohio since 1995. Sampson formed his private investigations firm, CSI Consulting and Investigations, in 2008. He previously worked as a deportations law enforcement officer with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The Daniels and Sampson affidavits were originally recorded by attorney Orly Taitz in an eligibility case against Obama last year.

Elena Kagan nominated Monday to the Supreme Court
WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Monday nominated Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court, declaring she would demonstrate the same independence, integrity and passion for the law exhibited by retiring Justice John Paul Stevens.
If confirmed by the Senate, Kagan would become the third woman on the high court. Obama introduced her in the White House East Room as "my friend."
The former Harvard Law School dean "is widely regarded as one of the nation's foremost legal minds," Obama said.
Kagan, 50, said she was "honored and humbled by this nomination." She called it "the honor of a lifetime."
"I look forward to working with the Senate and thank you, Mr. President, for this honor of a lifetime."
Obama cited what he called Kagan's "openness to a broad array of viewpoints" and her "fairmindedness."
In a statement issued before Kagan had completed her remarks, the lawmaker who will preside over her confirmation hearing, Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, said, "The Senate should confirm Ms. Kagan before" Labor Day.
"Our constituents deserve a civil and thoughtful debate on this nomination, followed by an up-or-down vote," he said.

SUPREME COURT NOMINEE ELENA KAGAN.... In a couple of hours, President Obama will introduce Solicitor General Elena Kagan as his choice to fill the Supreme Court vacancy left by retiring Justice John Paul Stevens.Kagan served as the Dean of Harvard Law School from 2003 to 2009. She was widely viewed as a front-runner when Obama was considering candidates for a Supreme Court opening last year, but the president ultimately chose Sonia Sotomayor for the job.If confirmed, Kagan would be the first justice on the high court who hadn't already served as a judge since 1972. She would also be the third woman on the high court -- the most in American history.
At 50 years old, Kagan would be the youngest justice on the court, one of many factors working in her favor. She has the chance to extend Obama's legacy for a generation. [...]
A source close to the selection process told The Associated Press that a central element in Obama's choice was Kagan's reputation for bringing together people of competing views and earning their respect.
Kagan's background is as diverse as it is impressive: she clerked for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall (whom she later described as the "most important lawyer" of the 20th century); worked on the Hill as a Senate aide (with then-Sen. Joe Biden); was a domestic policy aide in the Clinton White House; became the first woman to serve as the dean of Harvard Law School; and has been the Solicitor General in the Obama administration for about a year.
While Kagan's professional background is unlikely to generate controversy, there are widespread concerns, particularly on the left, about her relatively thin paper trail and unstated political philosophy. For most Supreme Court nominees, there are years of court rulings that help paint a reasonably accurate picture of a jurist's views. Kagan, however, has no such record, and didn't even publish extensively during her career in academia.
As the NYT noted, "Perhaps as a result, some on both sides of the ideological aisle are suspicious of her. Liberals dislike her support for strong executive power and her outreach to conservatives while running the law school. Activists on the right have attacked her for briefly barring military recruiters from a campus facility because the ban on openly gay men and lesbians serving in the military violated the school's anti-discrimination policy.'

On the other hand, Lawrence Lessig has defended Kagan's progressive bona fides, and Walter Dellinger has argued that on one of the more contentious areas -- Kagan's seemingly conservative views on the power of the executive -- she may be more liberal than she appears.

In Tears Elisabeth Hazzelbeck Apologizes to Erwin Andrews

Elisabeth Hasselbeck can be a polarizing personality, to put it mildly. Attacking public political figures is one thing. Attacking one of America's favorite sports reporters, Erin Andrews -- who was recently the victim in a very public criminal stalking case -- crossed the line with a lot of viewers. Hasselbeck now regrets this decision.
Tuesday, on Hasselbeck's show "The View," she questioned Andrews' choice of attire for her "Dancing With the Stars" appearance.
She even suggested that an outfit like the one Andrews was wearing could possibly have put Andrews in a situation like the one with her convicted stalker Michael Barrett, who is currently serving two and a half years in prison.
On Wednesday's show, a noticeably distraught Hasselbeck publicly apologized to Andrews for her insensitive remarks. Hasselbeck seemed completely sincere in her remorse -- as opposed to being coerced by ABC, the network that employs both of them. She said she had already privately apologized to Andrews as well.
Hasselbeck, as part of her apology, referenced a conversation she had with her daughter the night before. "Mommy hurt someone's feelings," Hasselbeck told her daughter.
Later, she told the crowd, "I ended up hurting [Andrews]," as she fought to hold back tears. Hasselbeck's daughter had some words for her mother, which Hasselbeck relayed to much laughter in the audience: "Mommy, why don't you just call Erin and tell her you're sorry?" Hasselbeck took her daughter's advice.
Erin Andrews professed to "Access Hollywood" that she cried upon hearing Hasselbeck's original comments. She went on to say that Hasselbeck's comments were "a slap in the face to victims of stalking and sexual predators."
